So, I’m not always the best at writing blogs on a consistent basis, but I’m going to try.
Starting July 1, I will start writing a new book during Camp NaNoWriMo. It’s completely separate from The Marker Chronicles. It’s not even remotely related to it. Why did I choose to write this book?
Well, I thought long and hard about what novel to work on next. I have several stories floating around in the back of my mind, stewing on the back burner of my mind. I would have liked to work on The Brander, but the truth is I didn’t have it completely mapped out for me to be comfortable enough to attack it this Camp WriMo. So, that was out of the question.
But why this one? This one is practically in a different genre. When I first starting writing and plotting Breakaway, I was planning it as a Romantic Comedy. I wanted to challenge myself. Rom/Coms are very character-driven. They’re not action-packed. They have a completely different writing style to them. So, last November (NaNoWriMo), I started writing Breakaway. A week or two in to it, I realized I couldn’t tell the story the way I had planned to tell it. It didn’t work. I didn’t have all the kinks ironed out. I wanted too much to happen and not enough time to work it out. So, what did I do?
I quit working on Breakaway and returned to The Imposter, which I published in April.
But Breakaway has been calling to me. It’s been whispering in my ear. “Tell my story.” Riley and Lane have become my friends, and they are desperate to figure out what happens in their story. (More info about them coming later)
So, for July, I’m going to try to tackle their story again. My goal is to finish the first draft by July 31. I’ll try to keep you updated to the joys and challenges that I face during this upcoming month.
