People Let You Down

Here’s the thing: People are going to let you down. At one time in life, someone will let you down, and you will feel like the whole world is crumbling down around you.

You may doubt yourself. You may blame yourself. You may think that if you were a better person then such and such wouldn’t have happened. You may think that you are a failure. A fraud. A mistake.

You may blame everyone around you. You may curse at the the sky for failing you. You may become cold, calloused, and self-centered, refusing to let anyone else into your life again.

You may react any way you want. But here’s the truth: People shouldn’t be the ones holding you up.

I’ll repeat:

People will let you down in life, but they should not be the ones holding you up.

You are strong enough to face the world alone. You are strong enough to conquer anything thrown at you. So why should disappointment be any different?

The thing to do is find the place where you can stand. And stand firm. Stand strong. Don’t let people try to overcome you. Know who you are. Know what you want. If you do this, no one can let you down.

Yes, people can disappoint you. It’s bound to happen. People go back on their word every day. Best friends stab you in the back. Family doesn’t understand you. But at the end of the day, the week, the month, you realize that you can still go on. They weren’t keeping you going. Yes, they may have helped along the way. They may have made the journey enjoyable for a time. But you are the one who kept pushing for the goal.

And if you didn’t make it? Don’t blame anyone. Keep trying and never quit.
